Innocent sleep. Sleep that soothes away all our worries. Sleep that puts each day to rest. Sleep that relieves the weary labourer and heals hurt minds. Sleep, the main course in life's feast, and the most nourishing.”

Dr Louise Baker-Martins is a Clinical Psychologist specialising in psychological therapy for sleep problems.

She works with clients based in Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset.

Hello, thank you visiting my website.

I am a Clinical Psychologist specialising in the assessment and treatment of sleep difficulties and I am passionate about helping people to experience good sleep. I believe that a positive relationship with sleep and a compassionate approach to distress is vital for our ability to fully engage with what matters most in life. I have enjoyed working in this area for many years, and hold a PhD in insomnia, anxiety and neurocognitive function, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. You can find out a little more about me and working together here.

I understand just how hard it can be to struggle with sleep, and to feel overwhelmed by the impact this has on daily life, work and relationships. Insomnia is very common and debilitating, with sleeplessness itself a vicious cycle that feels hard to break. Problems with sleep are also very common with anxiety, low mood and trauma, and within physical health problems.

My role is to help adults and young people to make sense of their sleep and to create a treatment plan that we can implement together. I work in a collaborative and compassionate way and believe the therapeutic relationship is key to unlocking doors that lead to more restorative sleep. This process enables clients to uncover their own "‘sleep sweet spot’ where mind and body rest together.

Sleep is a natural and innate physiological process that should happen without conscious effort or control, but is easily disturbed by emotional distress, unhelpful behaviours and the demands of modern day living. My therapeutic approach is evidence-based and informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy and Compassion Focussed Therapy, and underpinned by the fundamental principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Insomnia.
